i like to learn As a child, I spent hours each week within the library, studying and discovering and testing new books.
As I obtained a bit of older, I expanded my repertoire to incorporate newspapers. I delivered newspapers as a child, and very often I learn the entrance web page as I walked across the neighborhood breaking the information.
(Yes, Virginia, children used to ship newspapers!)
(Yes, Virginia, folks used to subscribe and skim newspapers.)
Fast ahead to in the present day, and I like studying stuff on the web. Community Facebook teams are significantly entertaining. There are teams, typically centered on a selected metropolis, city or space, the place folks drop by to put up questions or feedback. Some of those posts actually make me snort!
Here’s a take a look at my favourite varieties of posts in these teams:
1. What about all of the police vehicles?
Almost on daily basis you’ll find posts saying basically the identical factor: “I just saw police cars in our neighborhood. Anyone know what they are doing?”
They’re probably looking for you. Or respond to a police call. Or work for the police.
Seriously, do you people expect the police to announce where they’re going and why every time they jump in their car?
Maybe, just maybe, they’ll do a donut run!
2. What about the low flying and/or noisy planes and/or helicopters?
Again, should all planes check in with you first before exiting the runway?
There are airports and military bases all over New Jersey. They fly things in and out of the airport all the time. Did you know now that there is an airport nearby when you moved/grew up here?
3. Can anyone recommend a doctor/dentist/vet for a life-saving procedure that requires someone who is highly qualified and competent?
Let me get this straight – you’re going to ask hundreds of people you don’t know for a recommendation that could mean life or death for you, your molars, or your pet?
WHY ASK STRANGERS FOR MEDICAL ADVICE? Check with your insurance company or with friends and family – people you know and trust!
I don’t know why but this one is really driving me crazy! Would you stop people on the street and ask them for a referral for brain surgery? Then why are you doing it on Facebook?
4. Can anyone recommend someone to come to my house and fix something? I need someone of immense skill, years of experience and nothing but good reviews. I also need them today between 3 and 4 o’clock. Oh, I don’t want to pay more than $12.
A recommendation to do something is one thing, but the requirements sometimes get out of hand.
Ever heard the expression, “You get what you pay for?” People who are really good at their craft charge money for what they do because people are paying them to do it. And if they’re that good, they’re probably pretty busy.
5. What was that noise?
Must have been an earthquake, fireworks, or someone firing a gun. Maybe you should just google the phrase “none of your corporation”.
6. There’s someone I’ve never seen before I walked down the street. does anyone know why Have the police been contacted?
Oh! Oh! I know, I know! They walk down the street because they want to get from *here* to *there*. They are dressed like this because there really is no such thing as a public dress code in the US – you can dress almost any way you want.
Thank you for reading! I hope you catch the Cat Country Morning Show in South Jersey at 107.3 and on the Jersey Shore at 96.7 and 104.1.
