SANDPOINT – New books, new curriculum and massive money prizes are on their means to three Bonn County schools as a part of the Idaho Lottery’s “Do Good” applications, Bucks for Books and Classroom Wishlist.
Southside Elementary in Cocolalla and Priest Lake Elementary in western Bonn County will every obtain $2,000 within the Idaho Lottery’s Bucks for Books program to buy new books for his or her faculty libraries. Bonner County are two of solely 19 schools statewide to obtain these awards.
“The Idaho Lottery was founded to benefit the public schools in the state of Idaho,” stated Jeff Anderson, director of the Idaho Lottery. “Bucks for Books is another way we are advancing our ‘Do Good’ mission by promoting early childhood literacy among younger students.”
The grant will go a great distance and assist replace the college’s library, stated Lynette Leonard, librarian at Southside Elementary.
“Our book collection is old, adult-oriented, and lacking variety,” Leonard stated. “This scholarship is a great way for us to build more energy and encourage our students’ desire to read more. It will help open our students’ eyes to countless reading opportunities.”
Fellow librarian Nancy Bushman at Priest Lake Elementary agreed.
“We have a lot of old books that don’t interest young readers today,” Nancy stated. “This award would permit us to change outdated, misplaced and in style books and purchase two new titles per youngster to flow into.
Forrest Bird Charter in Sandpoint has obtained new textbooks for the English 101 curriculum as a part of the Idaho Lottery classroom want record program.
Students taking English 102, which is taught at our highschool, can use Advanced Opportunities funds to pay for school credit,” stated Mitzi Vesecki, a trainer at Forrest Bird Charter who teaches English 102. “The downside is that many students are unable to afford the required textbooks. These textbooks would be housed in our school and loaned to students attending our class.”
The Idaho Lottery companions with the Idaho Commission on Libraries for the annual Bucks for Books every fall. This 12 months, 19 schools throughout Gem State obtained a complete of $50,000 to buy new books.
