Chugiak hockey heads to regions undefeated, Dimond hands West Valley basketball first loss

In the high school sports scene, the diamond The boys basketball team stayed hot by cooling off west valley and spoiling any hopes the Wolfpack might have had of an unbeaten season during the Chugiak The boys’ hockey team finished the regular season undefeated. The annual west valley The Wolfpack Ice Jam basketball tournament was held in Fairbanks over the weekend and the most exciting game came in the second round when the host was upset on their home court diamond. The Ice Jam wasn’t the only basketball tournament that took place in the past week. Both the boys and girls teams Christian School in Anchorage competed in the 2023 Revolution Sport & Spine Therapy Al Howard Shootout and they all recorded wins Kenai headquarters, Juneau-Douglas and host Soldotna.

In the high school hockey scene Chugiak ended an undefeated regular season by knocking out three opponents with a combined 24–2 score. The Mustangs capped it off with back-to-back shutouts that included an 11-0 win by eagle river on Saturday. The Mustangs finished with an 18-0-1 overall record and go into this week’s Cook Inlet Conference Regional on a 17-game winning streak.

Scholastic Bowling saw another strong week through the eagle river Boys, as not only do they remain the only undefeated team in both divisions through the first 11 games of the 2022-2023 season, but they also had the top two finishers in the Anchorage Scholastic Bowling League’s Varsity Shootout tournament last Tuesday. teammates Connor Lanehart (690) and Kendrik Sider (682) took first and second place in the boys’ class diamonds Maia Stuerble blew out the remainder of the competition in the girls’ division, recording the highest score of any bowler in the tournament with a score of 707.

The men’s team lost their only game of the week traveling to Fairbanks to face a rival UAF and fell 10 points.

the UAA The men’s ice hockey team was back in action for the finals of the Governor’s Cup for the first time in 20 days last weekend. The Seawolves lost 4-3 in overtime to their rivals in both games UAF when the Nanooks defeated them for the third time that season. UAF won the series 6-0 in the first year of full reinstatement of the UAA program.

UAAs Cole Nash ran a school record of 8:03.41 and finished seventh in the 3K at Saturday’s UW Invitational.

Nash’s time was almost four seconds faster than Dominik Notz’s previous record of 8:07.23 set in 2017.

CIC Regional Tournament

The Cook Inlet Conference regional tournament runs throughout the week, with the first game in between Bartlett and eagle river on Monday. No. 1 seed Chugiak will also play diamond or service on Thursday, and the championship game is scheduled for Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at the Ben Boeke Ice Arena. Some of the games will be held at the Harry J. McDonald Memorial Center in Eagle River before the tournament concludes in Anchorage.

In a repeat of last year’s 4A state title game, the Warriors will come to town to put their perfect 8-0 record on the line against the reigning champion Lions, who went 8-2 unbeaten against their Alaskan rivals in the 2017-18 season . That year, the only loss they suffered came coincidentally together Vasilla 55-33 on the way.
